Our story

The lighthouse was first lit in July 1989 when a magnificent octagonal lighthouse-shaped building was erected on the edge of Kemijärvi Market Square. The current owner, Juha Matti, was a 6-year-old boy at the time and gained his first experience of working as a barbecue vendor while standing on a soda cart.

At one time, Juha-Matti's father Matti had determinedly wanted to build a fast food restaurant in Kemijärvi. Despite all the doubts and nasty comments at the time, Matti managed to build a great brand that we can proudly carry even today.
At the very beginning, the selection only included hamburgers, but gradually meals were also added. History has seen many different styles, from pasta dishes to salads, but the core and backbone of the business, i.e. high-quality, homemade hamburgers, have remained unchanged. Even today, our best-selling product is Majakan Maxi, which was also the opening product in July 1989.

Over 30 years is a big part of Kemijärvi's history and many different winds and storms have had time to
blows unsteadily, but the light still shines brightly on the outskirts of the city of Kemijärvi. We constantly strive to innovate and stay up to date, without forgetting history and traditions. It is a matter of the heart for us to produce high-quality and delicious grilled food for our customers.

Majakka has been owned by the same family throughout its history. Currently, three generations of the founder's family work part-time in the company, so Majakka Maxi and other products continue the tradition strongly.
In recent years, we have worked hard to raise awareness of Majakka through marketing and we want everyone from Hanko to Nuorgam to know what Auto-Grilli Majakka from Kemijärvi is.
